Powerful Class Combinations
Here are a few recommendations for a few powerful or interesting character
builds. These combos offer fairly different game play experiences.
You'll probably note right off the top that every build starts as an
adept--they're just so survivable early on while still having useful
magic.
- Adept/Mage/Paladin/Battlemage/Warlock This is probably the
most powerful and flexible build possible. Adept/Paladin gives
early access to the useful advanced celestial spells for defense
as well as decent learning bonuses for all major combat skills.
The Mage/Battlemage/Warlock path opens up the full range of
mage spells as well as excellent protection. Plus the drain life
ability turns the annoying and dangerous magic attackers into
your own personal healing attendents. Warlock also makes nether
magic cheaper so feel free to call up a few meat shields to distract
the enemy if they're making life difficult. This build is so powerful
that it actually makes the end game a bit dull.
- Adept/Mage/Celestial/Sorcerer/Wizard Another
powerful class focusing on spell casting at the cost of the ability
to wade into battle with a sword. Harder to play early on
as you posses no real benefits to combat skills, take advantage
of the adept's armour learning bonuses and the cheap magic weapon
skill as an equaliser. Spellfire from the Wizard class boosts
all classes of magic, so it can tip the balance for
encounters in the character's favour if things have been
difficult before.
- Adept/Mage/Monk/Shugenja/Kenjasai Pure magic with
an Asian flavour and much stronger nether magic. Plus the concept
of a sorcerous ninja is pretty appealing. Also a good choice
for the ultimate challenge of playing a naked mage in a fighting game.
- Adept/Fighter/Paladin/Marauder/Deathlord The master of
slaughter. Pesky spell casters or elemental attackers? The paladin
class permits access to the critical defensive spells. Cast Ward of Fire
and just stand in front of the jaws of a Fire Drake, contemptously hacking
it down with any winter weapon as it futilely spews fire at you. Even better,
cast Divine Intervention and stand back as an angel does your dirty
work for you. (Good thing being a paladin isn't a moral choice in this game.)
- Adept/Mage/Enchantress/Sorcerer/Wizard The ultimate arcane
spell slinger. The most powerful possibility for mage spells
while good celestial capabilities. (The drawback to this
is the lack of access to the better celestial spells since you've
traded away your access to this for an extra learning bonus
to arcane spells from enchantress.)
